Highrise is (as all 37signals products) very basic. We're currently using the free version and is mainly using it for registration of leads. This means that we do not forward all mails to highrise, but only the first mail we receive from a client. After that the mails are just kept in gmail (it is much easier to search, but you cannot share the info as easily). Sometimes we also use the tasks in highrise if we need to follow up on something. Highrise is little more than a big address book with tasks that enables you to follow up on your leads in a slick interface (but than again, we're currently not paying for it). Once the leads have turned into a customer, we move on to zendesk. Everything related to our projects is tracked through zendesk. It's a fantastic tool, but somewhat pricy because you need to pay per "operator". This means that my production team only have one account they use to access it, instead of one account each. Not optimal.
