Bank garanti

In 2006, I requested a bankgaranti to buy an apartment which is under construction at that time and now it will soon finished and take over date is given.  However the estimate price of the mortgage bank is very low that my present economy cannot afford to pay the monthly.  Is it possible to tell the bank that I cannot continue to buy the property?
