MOUNTAIN VIEW, April 1 (Reuters) - Internet search leader Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) has acquired Amino, a small startup that runs a collaborative entrepreneurial discussion forum in Denmark.
"Amino has demonstrated a unique ability in bringing together geographically dislocated entreprenuers to thrive and share practical experiences with their businesses. ", says Eric Schmidt, Google''s CEO. "The acquisition is a natural successor to our purchase of Blogger.com for which we already are planning drastic synergy effects, bringing Blogger from the Web 2.0 world to our recently announced Web 3.0 stratosphere."
Google Inc.''s recent addition to the influential Standard & Poor''s 500 index boosted it''s stock 8 percent last week, but raised fresh concerns over the stocks volatility and an uneven flow of information from its executives. Immediately following the acquisition of Amino the stock witnessed signs of halting the expected recession.
Amino was established privately in 2005 by entrepreneur Martin Thorborg, founder of SPAMfighter and Jubii, the latter of which was acquired by Lycos Europe in September 2000. "We have great plans for expanding Amino in collaboration with Google. Our immediate strategic discussions have centered around launching Amino in 30 countries, most noticeably with a division in Sillicon Valley where venture capital is in high availability but common sense Danish business logic is absent.", says Thorborg.
Financial terms of the deal were not available at the time of writing, although rumours from the blogosphere estimates the deal to land at no less than $420 million in cash followed by an incentive plan mirrored by the recent Ebay acquisition of Skype.
