RUBY ON RAILS DEVELOPER X 2

UK2Group operate a portfolio of the fastest growing web hosts in the world – privately owned and profitable. We have a team of 200 spread over UK and US. We are multi award winners and the plan is for further expansion and development. London/Chicago/Utah offices, a young, vibrant atmosphere and benefits package that includes all goodies you'd expect.

We are currently looking for a one or two experienced Ruby On Rails (ROR) developers to work in a growing and geographically diverse multi-language web development team, working on several projects incl. the VPS.NET cloud.

The candidate(s) will be expected to stay up-to-date on current developments in Web and Internet oriented software, software development technology and development methodologies, and should be familiar with open source development and open source tools and resources available on the Internet.

DIMENSIONS:

•Reporting to the Senior Usability Officer, the Developer will be responsible for developing new functionality and enhancements, improving existing code and fixing bugs for the website network and related software resources.
•Code level programming for functional changes, additions and fixes to existing code.
•Day-to-day development and training/ mentoring less experience/ skilled staff in Ruby on Rails technologies, software architecture, solution development and open source tools and code.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

•Demonstrated solid software development experience
•Must be able to demonstrate successful completion of 2 Ruby On Rails commercial-grade projects and have been involved in 2 other commercial-grade web projects, ideally based on an object oriented, MVC architecture.
•MySQL database creation and usage.
•Experience of high transaction Web Software Design.
•E-commerce Experience
•Knowledge of XML and SOAP.
•Ideally a technical Degree.
•Experience with high traffic enterprise websites
•Experience with content management systems
•Experience with javascript and Ajax
•Working knowledge of Subversion usage
•Good understanding of MVC design and implementation concepts
•Good understanding and experience in developing API and SDK's
•Database design and schema normalisation skills

SKILLS

•Strong familiarity with web search technologies
•Strong solution development and software architecture skills
•Must be able to work effectively in team-oriented environment and follow instructions
•Must have excellent spoken and written English language skills
•Excellent project organization, planning and execution skills
•Comfortable working to tight deadlines
•An understanding of leading software development methodologies
•Familiarity with open source software development

USEFUL:

•Some industry (web hosting) experience
•Web service development experience
•Experience with prototype javascript library very desirable
•Experience with ExtJS/Ajax/ Components

Position can be local in London, Chicago or Logan/Utah - remote work is also an option.
